Bunker 42 was once a secret military base built near Taganskaya Metro Station at a depth of 65 meters and covered 7,000 square meters. Construction of the bunker, which also served as Moscow's communications center, began in 1951. The primary purpose of building this underground and secret bunker was to create a safe place for Joseph Stalin and prominent Soviet leaders in a nuclear attack on Moscow. The secret bunker, now known as one of the tourist attractions of the tour to Moscow, opened in 1956 as the headquarters of the emergency command center of the Moscow No-Flight Zone Communication Center. For this purpose, the necessary facilities were provided for the presence of different people from different organizations in this bunker, and these people were transferred to this bunker in 24-hour shifts. In the 1960s, as the threat of a nuclear attack on Russia became more serious, the bunker was provided with everything needed for living there for several months without the need for outdoor contact, including food, fuel, and two artesian wells to provide clean water. In the mid-1970s, it was decided to rebuild part of the bunker and dedicate it to the Telegraph headquarters, but those plans never carried out. This secret bunker was officially declassified in 2000. Bunker 42 was priced in 2001 and purchased by a private company in 2006. The company had planned to build an entertainment complex consisting of a Cold War museum, a restaurant, a café, game rooms, and, if possible, a spa at Bunker 42. After the company bought the Bunker 42, a complete renovation took place at the site, at the end of which only the massive steel doors of the bunker remained intact. Bunker 42 provided living conditions for nearly 600 people for thirty days without the need to contact the outside world. Today, tourists of the tour to Moscow can register to visit this strange complex while during their tour to Russia via bunker's excursion tours.
