Chambers of the Romanov Boyars - Moscow

The Chambers of the Romanov Boyars is an architectural example of a 15th- to the 17th-century house in Moscow's heart. The building was handed over to Nikita Romanovich, one of the prominent politicians of the time, in the mid-16th century. In 1631, the Znamensky Monastery was established on the chamber's grounds, and the chamber was used as the monastery archives, the monastery treasury, and the monks' quarters. It was not until 1856 that Emperor Alexander II decided to completely renovate the building and turn it into the Romanov Family Museum. In 1859, the Museum of the House of Romanov Boyars was opened. One of the museum's features was the Romanov family's heirlooms transferred to this museum and the complete reconstruction of its interior. After the October Revolution, the museum had renamed the Museum of Boyar Life, and since 1932 has been under the auspices of the State Historical Museum. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the museum underwent a major restoration, which revealed a collection of ancient architectural details hidden from Richter, who was in charge of the chamber's restoration during the 19th-century reconstruction. After the chamber was turned into a museum in the 19th century, Russian emperors visited the Romanov family museum after the coronational ceremony to pay their respects to their ancestry. Of course, the museum opened its doors to the public only after the October Revolution. Before that, only members of the imperial family and nobles were allowed to visit it.

Silverware, magnificent and everyday clothes, children's toys, and very high-quality fabrics are other items that can be seen in this museum.
