Melikhovo Chekhov Museum - Moscow

Although Anton Chekhov did not live long, he left behind many short stories and plays. Anton Chekhov was born in the early 1860s in the Russian Empire. Chekhov's childhood was marked by illness and poverty, but he was nevertheless admitted to the Moscow State Medical University and joined his family in Moscow. Chekhov began writing because of poverty, and his primary goal was to write short stories at the beginning of his career as a writer, sell them, and make money. However, after a short time and progress in writing, he became interested in this artistic profession and officially began his work as a writer. In addition to studying medicine and earning a medical degree, Chekhov pursued a secondary career in literature. He has often compared medical work to his legal wife and writing and literature to his mistress. That shows the importance of both professions to Chekhov. Chekhov suffers from various diseases during his lifetime. His death also happened very suddenly at a young age. In 1904, Chekhov became so ill with tuberculosis, and his condition was so severe that he was unable to perform daily activities. He died in July 1904, a few months after being diagnosed with tuberculosis. Chekhov traveled to Badenweiler, Germany, to improve his condition and spent the last days of his life there. After his death, Chekhov's body was transported to Moscow and buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery. Chekhov is known as one of Russia's leading writers and playwrights. He has created more than 700 works of art during his career, including four masterpiece plays and several short stories. Anton Chekhov is mentioned as one of the founders of modern literature in Russia. His presence in the first level of Russian literature is one factor that makes thousands of people interested in his works to visit his memorial museum on the outskirts of Moscow every year during their trip to Moscow.

Melikhovo Chekhov Museum - Moscow

Chekhov bought Melikhovo's house in 1892 to live with his father, brother, and sister. This house, located on Moscow's outskirts, was considered Chekhov's place of residence, medical office, and writing office. During Chekhov's time living in this country house, while practicing and caring for the medical needs of the people of Melikhovo and the surrounding villages, he completed nearly 42 literary masterpieces, including The House with the Mezzanine, The Man in a Case, Uncle Vanya and the Seagull, and Thr Muzhiks for the people of the world. One of the reasons this house has been turned into the Melikhovo Chekhov Museum is the emergence of these masterpiece works in this house and the closeness that Anton Chekhov had to this house, even though the Chekhov did not live in the house for long. The Melikhovo Chekhov Museum was established in the 1940s. Of course, the survival of this house during World War II was somehow a miracle. After World War II, the museum administrators completely rebuilt the house with the help of Chekhov's sister, who well remembers the layout of the house. The museum's administrators had the idea to restore the estate when Chekhov had lived there. Chekhov's niece also donates part of the family heritage to the museum to eventually form the Melikhovo Chekhov Museum as one of the tourist attractions and literary museums on the Moscow Tour. Of course, a large part of the artworks and exhibits in this museum have been transferred from the Taganrog Museum to Moscow's outskirts. If you're interested in Russian literature or have a close emotional connection with Chekhov's works, you can visit this museum during your tour to Russia.
