Tropinin Museum - Moscow

Vasily Andreevich Tropinin is a famous Russian painter who spent most of his life as a serf. Still, at the age of forty, he introduced himself to the world as one of the most prominent contemporary Russian romantic painters. Vasily Tropinin was born in 1776 into a serf family at the home of Count Munnich. Until the age of forty, he spent his art and talent painting the walls of the count's house and decorating the cakes of the count's parties. After forty, he could buy his freedom and travel to Moscow to make fair use of his talent. The fascinating fact about Tropinin's life as a serf is when count sent him to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts to learn the art of confectionery but secretly attended painting classes at the academy. That marked the beginning of a revolution in contemporary Russian art. Most of Vasily Tropinin's works are custom paintings and portraits of wealthy merchants and individuals, earning an excellent profit, which made him able to free his family. There are many works by Vasily Tropinin that tourists can visit during their tour to Russia. Still, three of his most famous works are the portrait of Alexander Pushkin, the Lace Maker, and The Gold-Embroideress.

Fortunately, unlike some of the tourist attractions on the Moscow Tour, which are located on the outskirts of the city and will take time to visit, the Tropinin Museum is located inside the Golden Ring of Moscow, where most Moscow's tourist attractions are located. For this reason, if you plan to visit this museum during your tour to Moscow program, you will not face much difficulty. The Tropinin Museum is located in the historic district of Zamoskvorechye, not far from Moscow's tourist center, where attractions, such as the Red Square and the Kremlin are located. One of the easiest ways to visit this museum is to use the Moscow metro. The nearest metro station to the Tropinin Museum is Polyanka Station; there is less than a 10-minute walk to the museum. Another tourist attraction near the Tropinin Museum is The State Tretyakov Gallery, another contemporary art gallery and is recommended to tourists on tour to Russia. You can visit our blog for more information on these tourist attractions.

Tropinin Museum - Moscow

The Vasily Tropinin Museum and his contemporary artists in Moscow was founded in 1971. The museum is based on a personal collection of works by Moscow artists and painters from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including paintings, decorative art, fusion arts, and applied arts. The arts in this museum, next to the museum building, were donated to the city of Moscow by the famous collector Felix Evgenievich Vishnevsky. The museum has nearly 3,000 exhibits, some of which are permanently on display and temporarily on public display at different times. Most of the works in this extensive collection were created between the early 18th century and the mid-19th century. The building that houses the Tropinin Museum is a stunning example of late 18th-century Moscow architecture that survives to this day. Of course, part of the house burned down during the Great Fire of Moscow in 1812, but after the fire was contained, the house was renovated, and a large part of the house was replaced with stone. Over the years, the house was owned by many people and eventually donated to the Tropinin Museum to be introduced as one of the tourist attractions and places of interest in the Moscow Tour.

Although the Tropinin Museum has an extensive and unique collection of Vasily Tropinin works that you should not miss the opportunity to visit, tourists can also see works by other famous artists during their tour to Moscow. Other artists whose works are on display at the Tropinin Museum include Vladimir Borovikovsky, Ivan Argunov, Sylvester Shchedrin, and many other Tropinin's contemporary artists. One of the attractions of this place that makes the Tropinin Museum unique compared to other art galleries is the sense of intimacy between visitors and artworks. The Tropinin Museum has designed its gallery space so that there are no false objects (such as glass or storage containers) between the eyes of visitors and works of art. For this reason, visitors to the museum, who have dedicated their time to the museum during Moscow tour programs, can easily witness the smallest details used in the art and design of these works of art. You can visit our blog for more information about this museum and other art museums, including contemporary art galleries in Moscow.
