The Seven Sisters - Tour to Moscow

Russia is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world, which attracts millions of tourists every year. Since there are many tourist destinations in Russia, each of which carries an essential part of Russian history, culture, and art, tourists have doubts about choosing their tourist destination. One of the things that can help tourists set up their tour program and choose the best tourist destination on their trip is to listen to the Russia tour organizers and travel agencies' guides and information. Of course, if we only talk about the number of tourist attractions in a city, choosing a tourist destination will be much easier, because large cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, in contrast to other tourist destinations in Russia, host much more tourist attractions and places of interest. The number of tourist attractions in these two cities is so large that few tourists have the opportunity to visit all of them. Although tourist attractions and places of interest play the most influential role in choosing a tourist destination, there are many different points in choosing a tourist destination that should not be ignored. Among the many things that can affect tourist destination choice, we can mention the hotels, the climate of the desired location, easy access to places of interest and tourist attractions, leisure facilities in tourist destinations, and many other essential things. One of the popular programs that have primarily passed all the tests to provide the requirements to have a great trip to Russia is the Moscow tour.

.Moscow, the capital of Russia, is one of the top tourist destinations in Russia. The Moscow tour is always of interest to millions of tourists, and many tourists travel to this city for various reasons. Many tourists who register for a tour to Moscow say that the purpose of their visit to Moscow is to get acquainted with the history and culture of Russia. Although this is quite true, and tourists can get acquainted with a large part of Russia's past and history by visiting the various museums of Moscow and visiting the historical landmarks of this city, this is not the only reason to visit Moscow. Moscow has many tourist attractions, each of which can become an essential part of the Moscow tour. There are large parks in and around Moscow that can attract a large number of tourists. There are also many well-known figures houses and biographical museums in Moscow that display Russia's artistic and literary past. Some of Moscow's tourist attractions are also very strange and interesting. There are many museums in the heart of Moscow that can surprise tourists and even locals alike. For example, one of Moscow's former nuclear shelters has now become a Cold War museum and a recreational center of great interest to tourists. Nevertheless, one of Moscow's most iconic tourist attractions, the beauty of which is still debated, is a remnant of one of Moscow's strangest times. The Seven Sisters skyscrapers, built during the leadership of Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union, are one of Moscow's architectural attractions that attract the attention of all tourists, whether they like it or not.

The Stalin High-rises is a collection of seven magnificent skyscrapers with Stalinist architecture in Moscow, commissioned by Stalin to symbolize the glory of the Soviet government and as a symbol of comfort and peace in the Soviet capital after World War II. All seven skyscrapers were built in Moscow between the 1940s and 1950s and after the war except one. Of course, the project to build the second skyscraper in the complex, which was never completed, was started before the outbreak of World War II, but with Nazi Germany invading Russia, the skyscraper's skeleton was used to strengthen Moscow's defense system. The project was the Soviet Palace, which was planned to be constructed on the site of the demolished Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The Soviet Palace was supposed to be the centerpiece of the complex. Still, today tourists can visit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior during Moscow tour programs, which was rebuilt in its former place after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Each of the skyscrapers was one of the tallest buildings in Europe at the time of construction. The skyscraper, now owned by Moscow State University, remains the tallest building in Europe. Of course, visiting some of these skyscrapers during the tour to Moscow is very difficult or even impossible, such as the skyscraper owned by Moscow University. However, watching the exterior of these skyscrapers is also a unique attraction for many tourists, so we intend to introduce each of these seven tall sisters of Moscow as a tourist attraction on tour to Russia.

The skyscraper of Moscow State University is one of the most famous skyscrapers among the other six. The skyscraper, now Europe's tallest building only beaten by German's Messeturn, is located in one of Moscow's most popular tourist attractions, the Sparrow Hills, which has added to its fame. The project to build Moscow State University on Sparrow Hills began in 1949 and was completed in 1953. This skyscraper is about 240 meters high. The skyscraper of Moscow Central University consists of several sections, in the central part of which university classes are held. On its wings, there are university dormitories, cafes, restaurants, shops, and government offices. You can learn more about The Sparrow Hills and its attractions on our weblog.

The next skyscraper on our list is the skyscraper owned by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Gelfreikh and Minkus designed this 172-meter building on Smolenskaya Street. Construction of the skyscraper began in 1948 and was completed in 1953. One of the interesting points about the architecture of this building is its spire, which did not exist in the original design and was added to it later at Stalin's insistence. The interesting part is that after Stalin's death, the project's architect and designer, Minkus, wrote a letter to Khrushchev requesting the building's spire removal since it wasn't in the original plan. Still, Khrushchev objected and reported back in a letter, "Let it stand in its place to show Stalin's stupidity." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs skyscraper is another building that is not available for tourists to visit, and it entirely belongs to the government.

Continuing the study of the seven skyscrapers of Moscow, we come to the Hotel Leningradskaya, which is one of the famous hotels and conference centers in Moscow. Construction of this 136-meter skyscraper began in 1949 and was completed in 1952, only three years later. The name of this magnificent hotel is even listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest chandelier in the world, which was nearly seven stories high. This superb hotel was acquired by the Hilton hotel chain after the collapse of the Soviet Union and has been operating under the Hilton Hotels management since 2008 after a series of significant renovations.

The next building on our list of Moscow skyscrapers that has also been used as a hotel and conference center in Moscow is the Hotel Ukraina, which was built in 1953 and completed in 1957. The 206-meter hotel on Kutuzovsky Prospect is the second-tallest skyscraper in Moscow. The interior design of this hotel is so beautiful and magnificent that it is only challenged by the view of the Moscow River from its windows. Hotel Ukraine, which is part of the Radisson collection hotels, is one of the best hotels in Moscow to stay in and in every way can satisfy tourists on Russia tour. Of course, the Radisson Collection only bought the hotel in 2007, and before that, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the magnificent building had been abandoned. The Radisson Hotel complex resumed operations in 2010 after a series of major renovations.

The next three skyscrapers on our list attract less attention than other buildings. However, each of them is still known as an essential part of Stalin's seven sisters or seven high-risers. The Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building, the Red Gates Administrative Building, and the Kudrinskaya Square Building are other skyscrapers of the Seven Sisters Complex that are now used for commercial, residential, and governmental office purposes and are often visited by tourists. The Red Gates Administrative Building is the smallest skyscraper in the complex, 133 meters high. The Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building is the oldest building and the only skyscraper built before World War II. The fascinating point about this complex is that it was initially supposed to consist of nine skyscrapers in Moscow. Still, the buildings of the Soviet Palace and the Zaryadye Administrative Building were never built, which made the complex to be named the Seven Sisters.
