Nevsky Prospect is not the only avenue that appeared in St. Petersburg from the beginning of foundation, Moskovsky Prospect also formed at the same time. Moskovsky Prospect is a ten-kilometer-long street that links the center of the city to the south part. This avenue was the main road to Moscow. However, in the beginning, only Russian nobles and imperial family members could use the street to travel to Moscow, which is why people called it the Tsarskoselsky Tract. However, soon after its development in the late 18th century and early 19th century, everyone could use it. During the Soviet era, Moskovsky Avenue was chosen to become the center of the city for various reasons. However, that plan never took place, but several important buildings was constructed in this avenue, which each of them can be an excellent example of Stalinism era architecture. Although Mosovsky Avenue is one of St. Petersburg’s main streets, most tourists in Tour to St. Petersburg have only visited it when they arrive in the city via Pulkovo Airport.

Among the attractions that you can find in Moskovsky Avenue, we can mention the Moskovsky Triumphal Gates, which once was the largest iron-cast triumphal gates in the world and considered as the welcoming gates to the imperial capital city. There’s also the Moskovsky Victory Park, a monumental park that established after the Second World War to honor the people who have lost their lives during the Seige of Leningrad and those who have fought to keep the city safe from Nazi Germany. You can also find one of the most magnificent monumental structures to the Siege of Leningrad in Victory Square on Moskosky Avenue, which has a small museum about that era in its basement.

Another main street of St. Petersburg, which at some points intersect Nevsky Prospect is Liteyny Prospect. While in the beginning, this avenue had a common-look because of all the iron cast workshops in it, not long needed for Liteyny Avenue to replace its look with a luxury one and attract Russian nobles’ attention. However, during the first years of existence, the workshops inside this avenue were in charge of casting the first canons for the Russian Navy. Although there aren’t many attractions inside Liteyny Prospect, as much as there is in Nevsky and Moskovsky avenues, there are multiple shopping centers, restaurants, cafes, and bars in Liteyny Prospect, which makes it one of the nightlife centers of St. Petersburg.
