The Lower Park was designed following the style of the French Formal Garden, in the 17th century. The garden lost most of its original design and decorates, though it still managed to save the original pattern. Also, many restorations are made in recent years to get back the original planning as well. The lower garden is also known as The Nizhny Park which is the place that can provide some unforgettable scenes for you at each part of it. However, the most attractive place in this garden which is the destination for almost all the tourists who buy the additional tickets is the Grand Cascade.
This cascade which is modeled after a similar one in Château de Marly of France is one of the most amazing attractions in the whole complex. There’s an artificial two-story grotto built at the center of the cascade which faces outside and currently contains a brief history of the fountains in the park. There’s also a hidden corridor behind the grotto that links the cascade and the palace together. The 64 fountains are all under the grotto and at sides of it. These fountains will flow into a semicircular pool under the cascade at the end. There’s a giant Samson figure at the center of the pool too. Though the cascade is very amazing in so many ways, the really impressive thing about this cascade is that all the water and require pressure to run the cascade are provided directly from nature and there are no pumps or artificial mechanism to provide the necessaries for cascade.
The Nizhny Park is the three-way link between The Grand Palace, Marly Palace, and The Monplaisir Palace.
Besides all of these, there are also a few museums in the Peterhof complex such as the Marly palace which was the grand guest house in the past and currently host the memorial museum of Peter the Great and displays the pieces of art made by him in its exhibition.
Right at the shore of Finland Gulf, There’s Monplaisir which is the personal design of the Peter the Great. He completely designed the building including the interior, exterior, and all decorate inside the palace. While Peter the Great was inspired by the Dutch architecture during sketching the palace's design, the servant of the palace called it the Dutch house. Currently, The Monplaisir host the gallery that displays the pieces of art which collected or purchased by Peter the Great, and also an exhibition of the everyday stuff used by Tsars in this place.
